On the heels of the record-breaking auction sale of Lucian Freud‘s “Beach Scene with a Boat” in 2011, Sotheby’s has decided to offer up Freud’s private collection of five black charcoal drawings on paper. The pieces reveal the degree to which drawing played a significant role in his work, as well as the incredible command he had over the artform. His raw skill as well as his ability to probe deeply into his subjects is evident.
